I have long straight smooth brown hair im wondering if I should layer it Mom says too hard to take c

Layers do take more work than all one length, but it's not that difficult once you get used to the routine. If you know that you have the time in the morning to style it right, or don't care that on mornings you are running late you might have to run out the door in a ponytail, then get them.

Layers add volume to your hair, making it look thicker and fuller. They can also flatter the face more than one length styles.

Since your hair is naturally smooth and straight, it wouldn't be that difficult to style. After you've washed your hair, apply the gel or mouse throughout it. Then blow dry your hair as normal until it's just slightly damp. On a low setting, use a round brush on the ends to curl them under for a softer look. It ends up being a very natural style, takes almost no maintenance during the day, and it's very easy to do. Depending on your hair length, it can take as little as 15-20 minutes total to do in the mornings.

Show her some pictures of styles you like. Try a virtual makeover on a model, or if you can, upload a picture of yourself.

Then take her to the salon with you. Talk to the stylist about what you want done, lengths, maintenance, etc... Have her/him explain all the ups and down of the style.

Then start to be more responsible around the house. Show her that you are willing to do the extra work, like cleaning your room, doing dishes, doing your homework, all without her having to nag. She may think that you won't take care of your hair properly if you are (no offense meant here) difficult to get moving when she wants you to do something.

Good Luck!

Layers are only as hard as you make them... If you are nervous just get a long layer to start.... Then if you like it get more.... Long layers will just give you some body and movement.. And lots of fun!!!

Generally the more layers that you have the more work they are. You can keep the layers long and maybe angle it around you face a bit. It might be a nice compromise for you and your mom. And this way you can always add more later if you want or grow them out if you don't like it.

layers arent hard to take care of at all. in fact i got my hair layered 3 weeks ago and i've noticed even on the days when i dont use the CHI to flat iron it, it still looks good.

i have very long straight hair. 7 years ago i layered it and was very sorry. it tangled easier and was harder to brush and take care of. finally in the last year my hair is one length again and i will never do that again, and my hair grows fast, still it took that long to get over it! so good luck with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

definately start off with long layers, and go to a stylist who will be able to make a good judgement of your hair texture. if you have healthy strong thick hair, you should have no problemt at all... however if you have fine or brittle hair it *will* break! a possible solution is to ask your stylist to do a layered look, without actually giving you layers.

Layers are great if you want to add movement to your hair. I would suggest flat layers to begin with unless you have thick hair. Flat layers are going to build weight and are very easy to take care of.

My daughter has the same problem. Layering is actually easier to take care of because you have less hair you have to deal with. Not only does it add volume but it just looks better and healthier. Long layers are best so that hair can be put in many different styles. Go for it girlfiriend!

I found a great program that gives you over 100 ideas of hair styles. You can change the color of the skin, eyes, makeup to match your self. It is called 'Beauty Wizard' and its free for the trying. So have some fun, save the picture you made and print out and tape it beside your mirror, so you won't loose it.
