Well when you have red hair and you want to die it a light color you basiclly have to die your hair brown first. but I don't know cause you said you have sort of brown hair?

Well if you are going to do it yourself you must have to bleach your hair because if you don't your hair will not hold the color as you would like it to. So after you bleach your hair , dye it to the color of your choice and once you have done that condition your hair with john freda's hair color glaze to add more shine to your color. This will also make your color last longer.
