I'm a redhead and my husband has brown hair, but a reddish beard. My first child is a redhead, my second has brown hair and my third child is blonde!!!! I came from a long line of blackhaired and brown haired family, (no I'm not the milkman's!lol) and everyone was shocked I was a redhaired but being scottish/irish it's not surprising. Odds mean nothing, you'll just have to wait and see!! Although it is true that red is a recessive gene therefore both parents must carry it, genetics is not an exact science when judging these things.

It is a recessive, recessive gene which means you both have to contribute that gene. Brown hair usually wins out though.

Well, the gene for red hair is never really dominant or recessive, it kind of mixes with whatever other gene is passed on my your partner. It seems you have a r (red gene) and a b(blond gene. We know your husband has at least one B, brown gene. If you pass on your red gene then your child will have some red in their hair, for example if the baby gets rB..the hair would probably be auburn, rb would be strawberry blonde like you. If your pass on the blonde gene though, brown is dominant so your baby would probably have brown hair (although they might be a blondie when they are young!) I think your chances of having a baby with some type of red coloring is about 50%. You never know...my aunt is a strawberry blonde, and has 2 brown haired children.
