try highlights first, tri-color highlights are cool. that means three shades of one color. talk with your colorist on the best route for your change. I also have brown hair and went straight to plantinum blonde hair and yes, i loved it but it fried my hair so badly that after three months i had to cut it all off. if I took my time and kept adding highlights every few weeks i think it would have worked out best.

Yeah dont go too blonde, like the last person said it will really wash you out. Im fair skinned, blue eyes (irish) and my hair is naturally golden blonde (kind of a mid tone blonde / brown). I get alot of comments from people admiring it. Ive never been to the hair dressers in my life (totally scared of them...ugh the smell of hair spary) I let it do what it wants- looks kinda like the mermaid in splash....amyway getting back to the point, yeah go mid toned.

It depends on how dark your hair is and if your doing it yourself. Because if you try to go to light yourself odds are you will probably end up a strawberry blonde which is probably not what you want. The pre meausered box dyes arent formulated to go real blonde on dark hair. Take it from me and over 20 years of dying my own hair you can get real problems if you want to go light and you have dark hair. It's worth seeking a professional. Cause you could end up with hair that will break off in a few months, the effects take awhile to show after a mistake with hair dye.

I would just have a few caramel colour highlights,if you go blonde you will need to touch up roots and its a never ending task!!!!!,at least if you dont like a few high lights ,it easy to tone them down.i am pale too with blue eyes and brown hair and a few highlights warm my face up i am now going back to more my natural colour as i had blonde and caramel highlights and its become too light for me as my question tells you blonde can be high maintainance .so just go slowly and dont rush in.if your hair is long it takes ages to grow out,i would go to a salon you dont want to go a nasty yellow good luck emma : }

Hi, I've got colouring similar to yours: dark brown hair, pale yellow toned skin with royal blue eyes.

A few years ago I was on holiday and fancied a change (must be the sun and sangria!) and cut my long hair into a bob and dyed it mid blonde with lighter highlights woven through. It looked fab with a tan and made my blue eyes stand out. However, when I got back from hol and my tan started to fade, I looked washed out, my features didn't stand out and I looked ill, not to mention the black line of regrowth I got after a few weeks. I promptly dyed it back dark brown!

Think of the cost, time in the haidressers chair and maintenance! Don't do it!

If you really want to go lighter have a couple of slices put through instead of all over to lift your colour, but only go a couple of shades lighter (dark caramel colour will look nice) as the regrowth won't be noticeable!

You should try Clairol Hydrience in #10 Seashell/ or you can go to their website and they will pick out your ideal shade so you dont look washed out. I swear by this. I just used their product last night for the 1st time. You do a pre-treatment conditioner on ur hair that thy provide in the box for 1 minute , then you put your color dye on, then it tkes 25min. Thy give u a pantene protein "just like heaven" after treatment. My hair has never been silkier and I LOVE the color!
