How do you dye naturally dark brown hair lighter using drug store dye.?

I've tried the drugstore brands that "lift" naturally dark hair. It dyed the roots the color I wanted, but not the rest. I have long,thick healthy hair. I am of White and Latin ethnicity. I do not want to spend 100's at a salon. PLease help!!!!

P.S. I'm trying to dye my hair to a honey brown color.

I use L'oreal coulour experte--it works really well. But you don't want to buy something that is sold to lighten your hair, you should just buy a dye.

You have to make sure you use one with peroxide in it, the wash out kind won't work. Make sure you really want to do it though because it is damaging and I find that more hair than usual falls out in the shower a week or so after dying it, so if your hair is already thin its not a good idea, but if its thick it won't make too much of a difference. I agree with the first poster, L'oreal is good.

for cheek colors i suggest to never ever go with red. it looks horrendous and clown-like. instead, use a softer, pink tone.

for eye colors, you can never go wrong with black!!! BUT! i think you know that already.... so.... stay away from bright neon colors. it will make your skin tone look ugly and faded. blue,brown, pink or even gold go awesomely. if you're willing for a stretch go for green! dont overload on it though.

the awesome part about having dark hair or brown or w/e is the wide variety of colors that will look AWESOME with it.

I have brown hair, about 2 inches past my shoulders, and I like putting it up in a high ponytail, not too high though, and make it a bit curly. Another style I love is to pull your bangs back (if their long like the rest of your hair. and then curl your hair or make it wavy, Hilary Duff has been seen sporting this style.

Well if you are going to do it yourself you must have to bleach your hair because if you don't your hair will not hold the color as you would like it to. So after you bleach your hair , dye it to the color of your choice and once you have done that condition your hair with john freda's hair color glaze to add more shine to your color. This will also make your color last longer.

While you are letting your hair grow out, get it touched up with demi-permanent hair color. It washes out in 16-18 shampoos. Eventually, you will have gray hair and no longer need to color it. Also, I saw a post about stripping your hair. I would not recommend doing that since gray hair is unpigmented and it will ruin your hair.

you could gradually go to a lighter brown everytime to go to color your hair. eventually the grey will blend in better.

You just have to let your grow out grey naturally, I do not think they make grey hair dye, I do know they have grey hair enhancers for when your hair is grey, to keep it looking nice, because sometimes, white,grey,silver hair can take on a yellowish cast.

If you want to go grey it just takes time, patients and a lot of time with some bad *** grey roots and colored ends. I have had so many clients that want to quit coloring there hair, but get frusterated and color there hair. There really is no good way in my opinion to color your hair grey, grey hair is unpigmented hair, so is blonde hair.... you can bleach ur hair out and get it colored grey, but matching your roots to your ends with grey would be extremely hard. Patients is the best way, might take you a couple years, if you don't want to cut your hair short.

I know guys like my hair straight or curly, but since it's easier for me to wear it straight and I hardly do it curly, they notice when I do and compliment it, but it'd be the same vice versa, you know?

I like both. It's fun to mix it up every now and then. My ex had curly brown hair most of the time, which looked awesome, and she would occasionally straighten it which also looked awesome, just in a different way. Switch it up every now and then.
